Astrophysical Plasmas

Our research field focuses on plasma astrophysics. The main goal is to understand plasma physics by studying the dynamics of various phenomenologies that occur in the solar corona, the interstellar medium and baryon physics in general. We develop two main branches, one applied to Solar Physics and other in Cosmological Magnetic Fields.

The research lines

  • Generation and detection of Moreton waves.
  • Formation and evolution of objects known as supra-arcade downflows.
  • Deflections of coronal mass ejections.
  • Dynamics and emission accretion discs and jets (Herbig-Haro objects /SMBH accretion discs).
  • MHD star formation modeling
  • Cosmological signatures of Magnetogenesis scenarios
  • Cosmological environmental dependence of magnetic evolution

Keys: Sun:corona – Numerical simulations – Magnetohydrodynamics – Cosmology:magnetogenesis

Highlight

This research line was driven by Dr. Andrea Costa. The main researchers are: Mariana Cécere, Federico Stasyszyn and Ernesto Zurbriggen

The main strength of our group lies in the creation, numerical development and management of data from numerical simulations that reproduce plasma dynamics.

We have significant experience in the analysis of images of the solar atmosphere.

We generate synergy between cosmological models and magnetogenesis, creating unique proves for both of them.

The use of tools such as: FLASH and Swift
